YOGA WITH ESTHER

Is yoga for everyone?
Yes, and no. I believe that as unique creatures, we must follow individual paths. We share most of our traits with our fellow humans (99.8% I've been told), but there is that tiny bit that makes each of us different from everyone else, and in some ways, that must be attended to as if it were the whole kit and caboodle. What is optimal for one person to find balance and harmony in her life is not the same for another person, of course.

So, try whatever you feel inclined to try, challenge yourself to try a few things that scare you, give it all a chance, and in the end, stick with what helps you find balance. You might also call this peace or happiness; the term for it is less important than that you recognize it in yourself. And therein lies the yoga that is for everyone: balance within you and with the environment around you. Find it wherever you can.

Why did I choose yoga?
I’m not sure that I did choose yoga, I think it chose me. My experience of yoga is one that starts from the body I know and progresses into unknown or dormant places of the body, mind, and spirit that I might not otherwise give myself the time to consider and nurture. My yoga celebrates my love of movement, of finding intense movement in stillness, of having a place to come back to, again and again.

I can credit Esther with being the first person who has really been able to get through to me with meditation... with her, I've realized the incredible possibilities that are there.Sarah L, student
