YOGA WITH ESTHER

My Training
I completed my teacher certification at ISHTA Yoga with Alan Finger and senior teachers Kelly Eudailey, Peter Ferko, Jean Koerner, Kristin Leal, Mona Anand, Gina Menza. I continue to learn through their teachings everyday. I complement my yoga training with studies in anatomy and the Alexander Technique. My love of anatomy and functional alignment keeps me looking for the latest from movement science studies to understand not only that yoga helps us find balance, but how. I continue my own yoga education by attending workshops, anatomy courses, and individual and group lessons.

More stuff about me
I have been a dancer since I was little, and perhaps because of my attachment to this manner of moving, I came to yoga the hard, reluctant way. I resisted it as a "fad," but then found myself ushered into it by injury and the testimonials of friends I trusted. Reflecting on my process of healing that includes yoga and other modalities, the single most important thing I learned is that making the time to care for myself is not an indulgence but a necessity. I am grateful to all of my teachers who gave me the tools to know this fully.

It took a few years of tentative practice before yoga sidled up to me and said, "hey, I'm here to stay, how about you make room for me?" This happened right around the time that I found its principles resonating in my life off the mat as much as on it. It makes me giddy to see yoga in different forms everywhere around us, as it gives us so many more opportunities to learn it and be it.

Lastly, my curiosity about the human body is rampant. My knowledge grows daily as I continue to ask questions, explore evidence, and test answers. My curiosity about how and why we do what we do - what makes us human, what makes us imperfect, what makes us try, what makes us care, what makes us want to be who we are or who we imagine we are or who we dream we might be - this is equally unending.

I love sticking my tongue out (as in simhasana, Lion's breath!), quite possibly as it feels deliciously improper!
